I've Got A Theory...

I've been watching Buffy re-runs and having nostalgia trips on You Tube.

Let that statement be my warning.

Anyway, the Hansel and Gretel demon of S3 Buffy coupled with your predictable plurality in Australian music has led me to conclude the following:

Emop princesses The Veronicas are basically the 90's band, sister2sister , with more makeup!

Take a look at either group's debut single and video:

S2S's Sister

The Veronicas' 4EVER

Admittedly, the emo factor seems to have increased over time but that could be from bitterness over the sharp decrease in popularity after about 1999.

The time delay also makes it possible for S2S to get surgery to look more alike.

If I'd been able to find an official video, I would have made a case for short-lived Asian sister-band Jackson Mendoza being the phase between S2S and The Veronicas. However, the only thing close was Sailor Moon fan vids (go figure). About the only evidence I have of Jackson Mendoza ever existing is this Geocities community, these 3 lines on Wikipedia and my respective copies of their 'Venus or Mars' and 'Ordinary Girl' singles and even then, I'm paranoid that they've self-destructed in the 7 or more years since I've played them and I haven't noticed.

As the Australian music industry rarely produces anything to concern the rest of the world (aside from your one-off Kylie, Jet and AC/DC), I don't expect anyone else to remember Jackson Mendoza (though the hotter sister Natalie went on to star in a minor role in 'Moulin Rogue!' and the English series 'Hotel Babylon') or S2S. However, I think everyone will admit that it's strange that a new brunette sister group with an ethnic background seems to manifest every few years (in my memory, at least).

*brief pause to watch the regrettable video of another Australian group of the late 90's*

Someone remind me to post a playlist of all of the ultra-lame, all-Australian pop that I used to listen to/know all the words of in late primary school.
